Music
I've taken on a lot of music projects over the years. From mix tapes to now band action, music has been a source of enjoyment and fulfillment since 1994. I'm currently on hiatus from both my Austin-based bands, the Radars and Push the Button.
Film / Video
In 2003, I shot a 13:30 minute film about a white-collar employee in search of his employer, called To Whom it May Concern. It starred my old roommate Saven Wilkins, and featured camera work by Frank J. Kim and Jason Maggitti, a cameo by Jason, and a voiceover by Kristin Harrison.
Feeling the need to make a mockumentary, I began writing Hans Dampfengassen Kolbermeyer in 2005. It starts off as a documentary film that soon takes on a narrative life all its own as the story centers on the filmmakers trying to connect the dots as to the troubled artist's whereabouts. I took some footage of my friend Jake Bryer delivering some of the lines, many of which still required ad lib, to moderate success. I still have the footage, but haven't made time to get my friends from the Germanic Studies Department involved... Their help, especially the ones with German accents, is necessary to make the effort work, as is the assistance of folks from the Texas German Heritage Society. One of these days...
In 2006, I wrote a tongue-in-cheek piece about two men who have a girl kidnapped in the trunk of their car, which subseqently. Think Steve Buscemi and John Goodman in Fargo
Radioplays
A Call of Cthulhu adaptation to radio tapes began in 2005. In 2007, I invited my friend Tom Walton
Narrative Soundscapes
In 2002, I got my feet wet with Transmissions from Omalo, a loose narrative taking quotes from a Harlan Ellison story and splicing them in among . This one was more of a glorified mix tape with my disembodied voice thrown in among the cracks.
With Transmissions from Quonset in 2003, I set a much higher bar. The fidelity still wasn't perfect, but the resulting mix turned out very coherent. Set to Ellison's "Night Vigil"
Took a break to concentrate on graduate studies, my career, and starting publishing businesses.
In 2009, I recorded Transmissions from AM was a set of instrumentals that took on a narrative form and an expanded scope (see the bonus tracks!)
Over 2010, I worked on a new transmission, Transmissions from Lazarus Star, a story of a manned mission gone awry. As of 2011, this has been through a series of writes, and re-writes, and is currently under production in my living room. I hope to release this by the end of June.
Entrepreneurial
I've talked about starting a business for 12-13 years now. Usually the idea revolved around a game company, but I think there's more to be done than that.
Kristin and I have now begun Manifest Labs to devise technical and social solutions to address political challenges. As of 2011, we have our first customers. Exciting times are ahead!
