My undergraduate days
From Wiki Essays
The University
I had fun at UMBC; the very affordable university had a lot going on, especially since it didn't have the same visibility as College Park or other major state and private institutions. This allowed free jazz musicians, independent theatre practitioners, and rogue coders to thrive. Socialists canvased the quad, and the rarefied air of the AOK library was graced by such visitors as Derek Walcott. I mean, not everyone discovered the joy of the forests behind the intramural fields or the ponds with their pairs of swans. And not everyone was engaged in their own craziness; no universities can make such claims as long as there are fraternities and sororities on campus. But, any way you slice it, those were good days.
In 2009, UMBC was recognized as a top up-and-coming university, which is nice to hear. My hope is that the uniqueness of this hidden place doesn't go away with such distinction.
The People
My personal experience at UMBC was made special by the people who attended classes and lived in the dorms with me.
We had some crazy nights in Baltimore, many of which I will never forget even though I might prefer to.
